I Love Your Memories

The Rogue Speaks:

I know that many of you have seen this photo in a past post, but this warms my heart more than any other I can think of.

The night this was taken, we were sitting with Mum in her room--Rod and I and Rod's brother Alan and his wife Jill.  We knew that the end was near, and wanted to spend as much time as we could with her.  For quite a while, Mum seemed to be gazing up into a corner of the room.  Finally, Jill asked Mum if she was thinking about her home, Edmonton.  Mum nodded that she was.  Rod got up and stood by her and began telling her stories that he remembered about her family, and about things that happened in Edmonton when he was a little boy.  Her eyes never left his face.

"I love your memories," she said.  She died two nights later.

What a lovely memory!
We lost my Dad last year at this time, and he's been in my heart more than ever recently.

So very touching, Judy. It was nice that your mother could have those happy thoughts as she slipped away.
Mrs. Jim supposedly died in her sleep but we didn't really know. She was in a nursing home but the hospice nurse didn't tell 'rs. Jim the right things, things she KNEW--we would not have had her dying alone.
My sister was with Mom when she died but we were in a plane making its approach into Omaha, 35 miles away, as she died.
Haven't been hearing from you for a long time. Thank you for peeking in on me. I don't know who most people are on Jenny's memes as they don't tell their names. If I'm very busy, I don't have time to check every one.
Mrs. Jim thinks Lsu needs all the support they can get this year.
Also didn't know you had left Tuscon. Are you close to Houston now?
We have moved also, to Katy, a suburb on the west of Houston from Montgomery on the north. 68 miles. Also now 68 miles closer to our younger daughter, granddaughter age six, and the SIL.

Jim, I have been through Katy so many times over the years! We moved to Brunswick, Ga about three years ago. Poor LSU! I am so embarrassed for them right now!!!

Actually, Carol, she was Rod's mum, but I had known her since I was around 9 years old. What a wonderful woman she was!!

That is a heart warming memory. How fortunate her mind was good and she could still enjoy hearing those memories. A beautiful story.

Betty, her mind was not really that good toward the end. She remembered more about her childhood than anything else. Actually, that was probably a good thing. When we remember the BEST about our life, it is more of a comfort to us.

And that memory for you, alone, is an absolute treasure!
