B is for Being Yourself

The Rogue Speaks:

I have a friend who publishes a wonderful blog. Her name is Joann Mannix. Her blog is called Laundry Hurts My Feelings, and when you have a chance, please go check it out. I am stealing some stuff from her today for my lesson for Jenny's Alphabe-Thursday. I'm reading along about her trip to Sonoma and Napa today, occasionally shooting coffee out my nose at her funny self, and then I come across the perfect idea for my "B" post:

"Your time is limited, don't waste it living someone else's life...Don't let the noises of other people's opinions drown out your inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

Steve Jobs

When you have children and a spouse, and the responsibilities that come with family life, sometimes you find that you have put your own life on the back burner to accomodate other people. Don't forget, though, that you also have a responsibility to yourself. If there are things that you have always wanted to do, activities you have always wanted to participate in, don't wait too long. The older we get, the faster the days get away from us, and eventually the things that we wanted to accomplish seem like only distant and unfulfilled memories.

I always like to have some music to go along with my posts, and while I was trying to come up with something for this one, I realized that I already had it. So I am leaving the selection from my last post up for you to listen to and enjoy.

I totally believe everyone needs to live their own life. Great reminder and I certainly will check out your friend's blog.

Oh Judie, you have no idea how much I needed this today. I am caring for my elderly father and I feel like the world is passing me by. Your words are like a hug to me today and I REALLY needed that.

I hope I can find some extra time for me soon. Thanks for the reminder.

Hello, my friend. Once again, thanks for your kind, kind words. I've been so behind in visiting my blog friends, mainly because I am trying to live that life, hang that star.

Aren't Steve's words so inspirational? It was amazing on that day, how many people I spoke to were impacted by his words. I just had a hater on my blog, who pretty much trashed Steve Jobs. It made me sad. We're all flawed, but if you can change the world for the better, even if it's just with your words, I, for one, have intense admiration for that.

You put it so eloquently. The world can pass you by, in a minute's time. You're definitely not letting that happen and I, my friend, am trying valiantly to do the same.

Thanks again!

Great advice! Makes me think of that Dr. Seuss quote, "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Hi again!

Love the post – so apt! Couldn't put it better myself!

And thanks too for stopping by.

Have a great weekend & look forward to *seeing* you again soon.

I took the photo when we were in Cancun last year. Would I fly like that? Only if I had a waterproof camera.

I think it's very important that you live your life too ! It's good for everybody when you feel well in your skin !
The music on your blog is sometimes annoying. I am just sitting in the Hotel hall when suddenly the music started and everybody looked at me !
Imagine your husband sleeps besides you and suddenly wakes up because you have opened a blog with music ! Or in a hospital, or in an office when you secretly blog and suddenly your boss shows up because he hears "I believe I can fly" lol !

Sometimes doing for others, sometimes doing for oneself-it's all beautiful and worthwhile.

Oh my Judie, you really hit the mark on this post for B today! It so fits for me right now...you put my thoughts right before my eyes, so eloquently! Sometimes for me the words I feel inside escape me, and then I go and read what's swirling around insdie of my head and I just have to gasp!!! Wow, you said it best! Love this, and the music is so fitting as I linger.....

Amen to this, Judie. My two giuding quotes have long been:

This above all:
To thine own self be true,
and it must follow,
as the night the day,
thou canst not be false to any (wo)man.
~ W Shapespeare

Follow your bliss.
~ philisopher Joseph Campbell

Nice tunes, too.

I never realized how cool Steve Jobs was until I started reading some of the material that cropped up all over the internet after his death. What an interesting person he was, and that quote is right on.

Great post, Judie!

It's sad as women we take care of everybody else first, then if there is enough time...we take care of us.

My bath is my 'me' time and baby...everybody better stand clear when the musics on and the candles lit.

God bless and have a beautiful day takin' time to be you!!! :o)

Nice photo and very wise words. I think it is necessary and essential to be yourself and enjoy it, but it is difficult to do without falling into selfishness. We answer your questions to your email address. Greetings.

That quote from Steve Jobs has been popping up in front of me for a few months now, only last week I shared it with my sister who lives in Australia.
It is very inspirational, but sometimes "stuff" does get in the way and you just have to live the life you have!!

I always try to be myself because it gets so damned confusing when I'm someone else. Because then I don't know what to think of myself, because at that time, I AM someone else.

Good thoughts to hold onto here. I'm reading a new (to me) book 'Full Catastrophe Living' and the whole theme of mindfulness.

I've always loved that quote from the commencement speech Steve Jobs gave. If I had heard that at my commencement, I would have changed my life sooner! But I'm happy where I am now. It's tough juggling the needs of my family and my own interests but I'm trying hard to make it work. I want to be able to pull it off so that I can set a good example for E. I want her to see that being married and having kids is not an end to who you want to be and what you want to do with life.

I'm a big fan of being yourself...fact is, I don't know how to be anyone else so I've given up trying.

I missed the posting deadline for Alphabe-Thursday this week...feel free to stop by, tho... :)

Hello.
I agree with you about taking time for yourself. I recently became so overwhelmed with blog & Facebook activities that I had to take a few days leave from cyberspace to regroup.

Wise & insightful post.
Thanks for sharing & visiting. I appreciate it.

This was really excellent. And a good reminder for me today.

Thanks for sharing this important and beautiful philosophy.
