Changing What's Real ( in a clumsy kind of way)

The Rogue Speaks:

My fabulous photographer friend, Mari Sterling Wilbur, turned me on to the blog "The Other Side Of Anna." Anna sponsors a monthly post about altering photographs using all those great digital programs that are available now. I am not good at following all the complicated directions, and so I end up doing the most simple things possible to alter my photos. I use these altered images to create some of my paintings. I haven't painted the image below as of yet, but I plan to in the future. Meanwhile, it is stored away in my clip file.

The image is of my son Jeff's chicken coop.

I must have cropped this photo for some reason unknown to me now, but below is the altered version of the ORIGINAL original in the style one might see in a pastel. This version brings out values that are important to me in painting. It also brings out certain colors that are not evident in the original piece.

This manipulation was not at all as complex as the more experienced photographers' work, so I decided to add another example that I did several years ago, when I was not so consumed with "old-timers" issues, and could occasionally remember how to work some of the gizmos on the programs. The photo below is of two of my children. As you can tell, it is VERY old! I combined it with the next photo, taken in Sedona about 10 years ago. After placing my two children in the photo, I did some painting on them and their surroundings to produce what I call "Wonderland."

I am really quite a simpleton when it comes to digital manipulation. You can tell that fact is blatantly true! But it is fun to play around with. I basically use programs to take the wrinkles out of photos of all us old people. Perhaps if I had learned all about the programs the way my son Joey did, back when he was in high school and college, I would be better at it! Oh, well! Now you can go to Anna's blog and see the work of some EXPERTS! Thanks for your patience!

The photos look pretty good to me! I love the chicken coop image. I imagine you're going to have fun with that one.

I especially like how your combined the photo of your kids and the one of the plaza and created a masterpiece. Brilliant idea!!! I do like your digital art and enjoyed the piece you posted on my blog.

The one of your children is really nice. Having just spent much of the afternoon trying something in Photoshop and then discovering the easy way, I' m not so sure that complicated is best. To me, the image itself is the most important thing (including the odd bit of digital facelifting!!!).

Interesting concept with photography! I really like what you have done with the photos, pulling color and texture and making them truly seem like paintings.

Now that's just cool! I never could figure out anything much more than cropping and changing to B&W or Sepia. Guess I better go visit Anna and learn something. Love what you did here:)

I too thought those were pretty professional looking!

I think you did a pretty good job with your digital manipulations :) The last image could definitely pass for a painting in my opinion!

I don't play around with photos at all, but you have inspired me to have a go.
The "painting" of your children is beautiful

Wow Judie! These are incredible! I especially like the combined photo and it has a 'storybook' quality to it. Awesome! I don't think I have a program that does that but you have certainly peaked my curiosity on how to do it :) When I was young, I had a box camera that you actually rolled the film. You could take double images or even triple if you wanted to be brave. It only used black and white film, and I would develop my own photos in my neighbors dark room (he was a prof. wedding photographer). Needless to say, I would go through an awful lot of rolls of film only getting a couple of presentable image overlay photos :)
Thanks for participating! I enjoyed your input.

Oh my! I think you did great! I , on the otherhand, would have to take many, many, many step-by-step classes! I am forever, awed by those that are creative with the digital imaging and anything to do with computers! (sigh! this is why it takes me about a week to get one post up! lol)

Blessings & Aloha! Happy Alphabe-thursday!
