Here is another question for Jenny's Saturday Centus:
Why, oh why, oh why???
Why don’t those against abortion simply pay for the prenatal care of every
child-bearing woman who seeks an abortion, then adopt unwanted children and
raise them? Why do these people keep trying to force their religious beliefs on
an entire nation?? Better yet, why don’t
they pay for birth control for these women so they won’t get pregnant to begin
with??? How much being fruitful and
multiplying do they think You can go here to read my first question, and here to read my last.

Another good why. Why, oh why, are most of the people who are adamantly against abortion also as adamantly against access to information about , and the actual, birth control? Seems contradictory to me.
Oh my this is so sad. I had a school friend that once was attacked and ended up in the hospital looking much like this! As for the abortion hater-nuts, my question for them has always been, Okay if you want to fight for a baby that has not yet been born and a mother that clearly doesn't want her baby can't be allowed to make the correct choice,(abort) will you be there to fight to protect, feed, love, and care for this child like a beloved parent? Of course they wouldn't have the time/desire/care for that.
yikes, this one gave me goose pimples...I am not anti-abortion at all, however I never thought about those who are stepping up and taking care...very thought provoking.
Oh Judie, this picture was so hard to look at, yet it brought your point home so well. I personally do not believe in abortion but I do believe in a woman's right to choose. And I do not judge. There are so many people looking to adopt. Would this child possibly have been better off with adoptive parents? I would like to think so.
BRAVO!!!!
Very good questions indeed Judy.
If those people were to take the time to think things over in an objective and logical way things like this wouldn't be happening.
I like the idea in your first question, Judie. I would support that.
While I can't speak for others, as one who is against abortion except in cases where it endangers the mother, my belief is that unborn children deserve protection under the law. Quite simply, I do not believe the mother's right to decide whether or not to be pregnant and bear a child outweighs the already-conceived child's right to exist. (I am not, by the way, against birth control that keeps conception from happening.)
I do believe abortion should be against the law, not because I don't respect a woman's right over her own uterus (as is often said to disparage my view) but because I respect a child's right over his or her own life more. Having said that, I hold no ill will or judgment toward those who do not agree with me. I realize their belief is different than mine, and I understand the thought process behind their opinions. I appreciate it greatly when mine is understood, too.
For me, a person who truly believes life begins at conception, laws against abortion are not attempts to force my religious beliefs on the entire nation. My belief in abortion law comes from the exact same place as my belief in laws against taking the lives of any other living being. I sincerely believe the unborn child (at any stage) is a living being. So of course I believe those lives should be protected under law.
It is possible, I believe, to understand and respect people on both sides of this question, even when we don't agree with them. I do not support extremists on either side. In fact, anti-abortion radicals who bomb clinics and the like disgust me in their hypocritical disregard for the lives of those who disagree with their position.
Finally, I used to work as a domestic violence counselor, and this picture is profoundly disturbing to me. The vast majority of abusive parents are abusive because they were abused themselves. Sadly, psychologically damaged parents abuse "wanted" and "unwanted" children indiscriminately.

Sue, I certainly respect your point of view. During my childbearing years, I personally would never have considered abortion an option. I loved being pregnant, and feeling that little life moving inside me.
Having said that, when my eldest, my daughter, got pregnant while living away from home (she was only 15 at the time)had an abortion, I honestly felt that for her, at so young an age, it was the right thing to do. She was not emotionally stable enough to care for a child, and I had a baby of my own to care for. I became quite ill after his birth and was barely physically able to take care of him. He was born with a handicap.
I do believe, however, that politics and religion do not mix, so when a government outlaws something because of the religious beliefs of some of its citizens, I believe that it is crossing the line.
Even though I never have personally taken birth control pills, or ANY hormones, for that matter, I am a firm believer in birth control. I have seen far too many mentally and physically abused children in my lifetime to not realize that having children isn't always the best thing for many women.
Thank you, Sue, for a thoughtful comment.
You are quite welcome, my friend!
=)
I work with so, so many people who suffered at the hands of parents who didn't want them and then have gone on to visit the same horror on their own children. I don't know what the solution is - one that is reasonable and workable. I believe that life begins at conception but I don't believe that anyone should be born for the sort of life that includes anything like what has happened to the child pictured. Abortion is legal in Canada and I haven't heard that it is used, as detractors threatened, as birth control. Birth control is paid for by our medical system and it's a good thing.
Oh Judie.
Why oh why oh why can't we save them all?
