ROOM WITH A VIEW

The Rogue Speaks:

It's Saturday already??  It feels like I just finished my Alphabe-Thursday "V" post.  If you haven't read it, go here.

Jenny Matlock, the birthday girl, has given us one tough Saturday Centus this week.  The prompt is in bold type.  After writing my Thursday post, I thought I'd be through with rants for a while, but Jenny's words just begged me to continue.  O.k., that's not entirely true.  I received a comment on my AT post from a Viet Nam vet who writes a blog called The Trumpet Summons.  How he found my blog, I may never know, but I appreciated his words.

Who knows what the Rogue Artist will write about next week?  Maybe it will be about art, or maybe my golf game, which has seriously suffered in the last few months that I have not been able to play.  Since we are celebrating the letter "W" next Thursday, maybe I will write about Willy Wonka, because I do love chocolate, or maybe I will write my entire post using the Wingding font, and leave you wondering just what on earth I am saying.

In any case,  here is my offering for this Saturday:

ROOM WITH A VIEW

“Wow!  This is MY room?”
“Yessir.  It’s for all the time you spent, living on foreign soil, dodging bullets and bombs.  It’s for your having lived on the streets when you returned and had no job.  It’s for the anguish you suffered when you were forsaken by a country you vowed to protect.
“How much will this cost?  I have no money.”
“It’s free.  We’re not for profit.  For comfort… for what you did for us.  A group of wealthy people have finally realized that all that money cannot by happiness, and they are working to provide for our veterans.”

The rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water that you hear may be a little different from the one on the published album.  It happens to be the demo for the original song.

That's it for this Saturday.  Please come back on Thursday to read my "W" post.  Hmmmm...Maybe I'll write about Worms!  Nah!  That's too political!!

Judie, this is a beautiful and unique way of honoring our Veterans. Too often once they return home, their service becomes forgotten.

Oh and the Vet who posted earlier? I know where he found you. Wink* wink *

We need to treat our veterans right, and your Centus is a good reminder for all of us.

So glad you are feeling better, Judie. And I, too, love your new pic (which belies your insistence that you are getting older)!

=)

I second what Sue said. This is an excellent reminder of the need to respect those that serve and protect, fight and die for everyone's freedom and peace. LYMI~Ames

Judie,

I am the vet who found you through the guiding light of a mutual friend. Thank you for taking the time to post this kind and sincere piece about the veterans who are in dire need.

When Nancy and I were married, Bridge Over Troubled Waters was the song that graced our wedding and stated our promise to one another.

When I saw a TV program about Bobby Kennedy's return from his assassination in CA to DC, the song that played as the train approached its destination was A Bridge. As he was our major political hero and this was our song, Nancy and I were particularly touched.

Thanks again for your amazing grace!

Larry

Thanks for your kind words, Larry. That mutual friend just happens to be my cosmic sister.

awesome!
Oh would that such would happen!
If we are going to make vets why, oh why, can't we take care of them?

I love your new profile photo - glamorous!
That was a very touching post. A friend of my son, who returned from Bosnia with a lot of shrapnel in his head was told by someone at our Dept of Veterans' Affairs that he wasn't going to be 'paid to lie around and smoke dope'. This to a young man who not only didn't 'smoke dope' but had lost an enormous amount through service to his country.....appalling.

Oh! I like this version of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". It's a classic song. I also love your new picture! Sooo lovely ^_^

Hope you'll feel better soon! Xoxo

Living through that era, I also know what appalling crap anyone who served in Nam went through when they got home. This post is powerfully....you. Our country needs to start building some bridges for sure. Hugs to Larry too:) I'll go visit him.

I appreciate anyone who has the good sense to help out out vets. I am a product of the Vietnam war era and know of so many heartbreaking stories. My late FIL was a WWII vet, and he was at Pearl Harbor in a submarine when it went down. The way our government treats vets is absolutely despicable! I get damn mad thinking about it. We need more people to come forward and lending a kind hand to these military folks..They have given so much!

Okay, I need to leave a remark about the song too, my cosmic sister. When I went into labor with my first child, it was 2:00 a.m. and I went into the living room and listened to "Bridge Over Troubled Water" for almost two hours. I knew it would be the last time I would have this child all to myself. I shared the story with him years later. Now when he hears that song, he calls me. Sweet memory... :)

Ahh, if only... the world would be a better place, and the rich would be happier, I imagine, for having shared. Too bad they don't realize it.

Loved this rendition of Bridge, one of my favorite songs. And what a beautiful piano solo after. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Judie, I knew something was up with this version...although still one of my favorite tunes of theirs! As for ranting, no way, you just love speaking the truth and not sugar-coating it, let the dirty clothes hang, unclean all the way! Your writing in this fashion always informs in a truthful showing of just what dirty rats can do when they know people are paying attention and they still don't care! Oops now I feel a sounding off coming, and I am so far behind on all my favorite bloggers stuff, as we just got back home! I'm so happy to read that you are back on your golf game again?! Take care my friend! - Karen

That's a wonderful view, Judie. It's like a happy dream, as is Simon and Garfunkle music.

Great new profile photo, gorgeous lady. I miss you and have been remiss with the SC. I'll be back, soon I hope. =)

War is such an abomination. And yet it goes on, generation after generation, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, destroying millions of lives. I don't think the human race will ever be fully human until it's eliminated war.

Thank you for a well-written and thought-provoking piece! Words can carry a lot of weight and your little 105 do just that. Perhaps more people will begin to believe that the most fortunate of us, those who count their wealth in hundreds of millions or billions, should put aside their greed and lust for power and give back to the nation that gave them the opportunity to become rich.
Rich folks: if you have 500 million dollars just sitting in offshore accounts collecting interest and doing nothing for the sake of humanity then your sad, wrinkled Republican head isn't screwed on right.

Thank you Tom! Now get busy writing those papers!! Your degree awaits you!!!

Judie, this was wonderful!

And I love your new picture. Gosh, you are so darned gorgeous!

The colors in that shirt just make your hair and eyes shine even brighter!

I think we should hang our heads in shame for our treatment of vets.

Or else chip in for a room...with a view.
