Ladies Who Lunch

The Rogue Speaks:

I realize that I am using the term "ladies" loosly. Hmmm--that could be misinterpeted' Anyway, it had been many weeks since I had gotten together with my Best Friend Artist. The last time was just before I left for the trip. We met at Amarsi, if you remember, and quickly became the most fun customers they had.

This time, we went to Chili's, and asked two of our favorite artist girlfriends to join us. I was the last to arrive, and they were already seated and laughing, which is a very good sign. As I sat down, the waiter immediately came over to take my beverage order. He brought it back in record time and then disappeared. We began talking and laughing, and time went by, but no waiter appeared to take our order. My stomach was growling. I finally caught the eye of a young woman who was serving drinks, and I asked her to please get our waiter. After a few minutes, she came back and announced that SHE would be serving us.

We had done it again! I think it may have been the talk about a husband's hernia surgery, or maybe the discussion about colonoscopies and polyps, and doctors who only recognize you by a certain part of your anatomy that is usually not on view. When it started, my best friend put her fingers in her ears and started singing, "Lalalalalalala" because she doesn't like to hear medical stuff, especially while eating a hamburger. Between her lalalaing and the sound of the horns at the soccer game, the restaurant was really rocking. Even though the horns had been sort of muted by the sound man, they still sounded like a swarm of bees (not a good sound in Tucson, since we have killer bees). In any case, I think the first waiter thought we were to much for him to handle.

Then the gossip started. I won't bore you with the details, but it was some pretty juicy stuff, causing my BFA to pull out her post-its. That woman has post-its all over her house and car!

Every holiday, I and a few more friends give her a fresh supply. She probably buys a lot on her own, too. Anyway, she is frantically writing all the juiciest parts of the conversation down so she can tell her sister. Our two artist friends start laughing at the post-it queen, and tell her to make sure she doesn't leave anything out.

My BFA and I are planning a "Girl's Game Night" with lots of good food, wine, and other spirits, and several "brain" games that always make us laugh til we pee. I took some pictures one night, but that didn't go over very well, so I had to delete them.

This is how my life is supposed to be--back in my own nest, with my family and my dogs, having a good laugh with friends who know me all too well. I feel myself beginning to get back into my element.

Thank you, MyDi, Cherrie, and Diane. I am now officially home again.

Yay! Nothing like laughing with good friends.

And I support the note-taking... if you're going to pass on the gossip, best to get the facts right.

Thanks, Dude! Your idea was the best. I agree on the note-taking. I have trouble with my hearing (from too much loud music way back when) and I could easily hear something completely different and a whole lot worse!

Nothing better than gossiping and sharing with artist friends!

Except teaching Precious to pee on the newspaper, instead of in front of the sink!

Next time it's Metro for cocktails. MyDi will drive me to and from. I can't be trusted with vodka martinis.

This was so much fun to read! You allowed us to vicariously enjoy your special time and have some laughs along with you. I especially loved the line about needing post-its! :)

Wow, what fun!!!! That is how it is when my mom and I get together which we don't do hardly ever!!!

I really enjoyed reading this, thank you!

Cher and Laura: This is nothing compared to "Girls' Game Night"

The last one was the one and only time in my entire life that someone had to drive me home! That will never happen again, but I guarantee you that at the next one, I will laugh til I pee and shoot a beverage out my nose! One of the games we play is Balderdash. I am pretty good at that one! I am not so good at Tri-Bond, but I do laugh a lot.

You should come! Let me know if you can!

Sigh, Judie, now that you've detailed how much fun we had at lunch, EVERYONE will be wanting to join us. And it concerns me because it is a VERY exclusive club. The qualifications are rigid: you must be alive, have money to pay for your own damn lunch, have a good sense of humor and not take anything too seriously. Suggested but not required: imbibe potent potables and have a hearty supply of Depends.

That is what I call a good life. Lovely watercolor paintings by the way!

I have some really cool friends! There will be nothing but fantastic fun!

Thanks, Sara! We really do have a good life. Glad you like my watercolors.

The Tucson sun, art and laughter, and good friends, too! Ah, Judie, as Mae West said: "Too much of a good thing can be wonderful."

Judie said...

You said it! Now if we could just get rid of Jan Brewer, and the yahoos who came up with Bill 1070, it would be perfect!!

Judie,

I just checked my email as I was writing this and I think we were commenting on each other's blogs at the same time. How bout them apples?

I am so glad you're feeling home again and I'm even happier you had such a great time with your friends that you scared the waiter off!

Judie said...

Ah, Joann! I just knew we were linked in some sort of cosmic way!!

Yeah, that waiter was sort of a dud (not dude!). He needs to take waitering lessons from Thomas at Amarsi!

Incidentally I have a minivan, but only to haul artwork in! HAHAHAHA! And no cartop carrier, ever again!

I will keep you posted and give you enough time to get your plane tickets. Don't forget your crayons, chalk, or paints. We create!!

When I took my first job after college I would get only two weeks vacation. And like the dutiful son, I would go home and visit my folks for the entire time. Well after about the third or fourth year I said forget it. I would always come back wounded and it would take me about two weeks to recover and feel like myself again. Finally I realized I didn't have to go home unless I chose to go home.

Glad you're getting back to normal. Good friends, food and laughs sure help!

Judie said...

Yep! I am back in my nest. In a couple of weeks we are going to Cancun--a REAL vacation.
It will be fun!! Wish I could bring my friends along, though.

Wish you were close enough to come party at Jason's! You would have had a blast and I wish I was close enough for game night and lunch. What fun!!!

So happy to read your infectious post. Nothing like being home.

Angelia, I'm sure it would have been the BEST fun!

We have been doing game night for several years now, and it just keeps getting better. my BFA doesn't like games of chance so we always play stuff that makes you think. Bummer for me after a couple of drinks! We play Tri-bond, Balderdash, and a couple of others. You would love it!

My favorite game while drinking is Chicken Foot or better known as Mexican Train (okay Dominoes).
:-)

Do NOT worry about the meme. NO BIGGIE! Was just for fun. Loved your answers you gave. :-)

Thanks! We used to play Mexican tTrain with our friends when we would go to Northern Arizona to cool off.
