Kleptomania!!

The Rogue Speaks:

First, let me say that kleptomania is a serious impulse control disorder. It is listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, and should not be taken lightly. Kleptomaniacs have an irresistible urge to steal items that they don't need, and have very little value to them. This mental health issue can tear one's life apart.

I don't know if Lindsay Lohan is a kleptomaniac, or if she just didn't want to pay for that expensive necklace she nicked from the jewelry store, but Winona Rider has actually been diagnosed with this affliction.

Having established that kleptomania is a mental illness, I hope you will not think that I am marginalizing it by saying I believe Congress to be filled with these poor unfortunate sufferers. It seems that every day one reads of Congress trying to steal from American citizens things which have little value to the lawmakers themselves, such as social security, and healthcare, but are very important to middle-class voters.

Kleptomania as a true mental illness can be helped with psychotherapy and SSRI's. The kleptomania that is running rampant in Congress needs an entirely different type of treatment. VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE!

One former Commander-in-Chief suggested that Social Security should be done away with, and that Americans could instead take the money that they pay into Social Security and invest it in the stock market for their retirement. Anyone who saw his/her 401K vanish in the crash several years ago can tell you that this is a VERY BAD IDEA--Just ask us.

Then there is Paul Ryan, whose own health-care plan relies on vouchers. Unfortunately, these vouchers have a cap, so if you come down with a devastating illness, and you do not have the money above what the vouchers provide, you don't have much choice except to die.

There are other kleptomaniacs in Congress who steal the confidence of the voters by doing stupid things. I am speaking, of course, of Weiner-man, and his ever-growing club of sex-crazed government servants. There is a treatment for his affliction as well. Please look closely at the photograph below.

Jenny's Alphabe-Thursday is always lots of fun, but some letters are more challenging than others. "K" is definitely one of those letters. I'm off now, to see what other K words I might have come up with. I hope you'll join me, and read some of the other offerings!!

p.s. Since Blogger is refusing to let me respond to comments on my own blog, let me add that the American people pay income taxes every year in order for this country to operate, and NOT to line the pockets of Congress (who is doing PRECIOUS LITTLE to help us out), and NOT to provide subsidies for Big Business while the rest of us are having trouble just keeping our heads above water.

I like very much the way you think! Kleptomania seems to be an international problem. There are a few here in Canada too. Sad, very sad.

This was great! Don't you just hate it when people take from you what they are unwilling to give themselves? Well said my friend!~Ames

Oh wow, and look at her scissors! Honestly, with all that's going on in the world--with Japan and now New Mexico, I think it's been overkill with the coverage on Weiner...It's
unfortunate, but I don't think it should have affected his job...I think it's personal and I don't think it's any of my business...(but, I think I must be in the minority with that opinion!lol)

How are you doing? Great, I hope! I'm in the midst of revamping my whole house--what a job!!!

Here's my view--if someone lies to the most important person in his life, he wouldn't have second thoughts about lying to the people who elected him to public office.

My eye is terrific! The colors are so perfect that I just cannot believe it! I used your blog as an example of just what artists can do with their creativity today!!

Funny! Not the topic, but your spin on it. Your originality certainly isn't stolen. :)

I still love Winona Ryder.

Okay, I'll post again...not sure where my first comment went...Great post....you bring out the humor side of this .....that's my thrill of it! Hopefully those needing help do seek it, my first response showed an early sign of it from a friend in junior high......she instructed us all to (while on a trip downtown) to seek something of not so important value and bring it back for show & tell...like a light bulb from a restroom...or something else of little value....makes me wonder what she may have become later....another Winona?

What is up with all politicians? Is being an egomaniac a prerequisite for the job these days?

I saw an episode of "South Park" where a few of the boys were sent for treatment for "sex addition". It was hilarious! One of the boys just kept saying something to the effect of "why can't we just use a little self control?"

It's my opinion that many of our politicians and public figures need a character makeover.

Good K word! I don't think Congress has kleptomania, however. They're getting big money from corporations for trying to hurt Joe Citizen!

your take is always thoughtful and apt.

Isn't our congress pathetic? And people still think big corporates care about us. Even a crash couldn't wake them up! Good to know your eyes are doing fine.

I have no love for the thieves in Congress. Yet, I feel compelled to point out that if I see an item that costs $11.00 and I have only $10.00, I don't buy it. If I did, how would I pay for it? Before I attach myself to a political ideology, I need answers that don't steal my intelligence. I'm afraid Sue is quite correct. "We DO have a Klepto Kongress."

Hey, you did a great job with K. Considering the experience I'm having right now with my mother's illness and associate Medicare and insurance, I'm convinced no one in congress has a clue. Some must really think with their weiner!

Judie, for those who truly suffer from this illness, I have great sympathy. Those in our government, however, who are thieves by day and night need to be voted out! Hear! Hear!

I once knew someone who was a kleptomania. She was one of the girls who lived in my dorm and she wasn't a nice person either. She created so much drama and hurt so many people that everyone in my dorm was trying to get her kicked out. It was pretty sad but she was unapologetic and even destroyed other people's property out of spite.

As for the government, I've been living outside of the US for so long that I no longer have a firm grasp of the healthcare situation there. All I know is that my sister and her family are struggling because her husband is suffering from a serious illness and their healthcare is giving them a hard time and making them wait for approvals before he could get the medical help he needs. I'm just glad that my husband chose to move us to a country that provides good healthcare benefits for every person who lives here.

Excellent post and sadly so true!!! This subject makes me foam at the mouth!!! Politicians don't seem to care about their consituant's needs. After what many of us have lost in stocks, retirement plans and the value of our homes, social security and medicare have become necessities not "extra" income. There - I feel better - I warned you I foam. BTW - absolutely Love the photo of the Weiners.

Man.... I think they just steal my happiness. The photo of the Weiners is priceless!

As for your info on the Corpse Flower luring in small creatures & devoring them... I just may take my nephews to the zoo to check out that theory;-)

Hey great post Judie. Yeah, these kleptomaniacs seem the opposite of Robin Hood -- they're robbing from the poor to give to the rich!

This hit home. I left an emotionally abusive spouse in my late forties and then couldn't get medical insurance when my COBRA policy was about to run out. My jobs don't provide benefits. Finally got a policy, but it's so sky-high that I still can't afford to get really sick!

Jenny said...

Oh Judie. I agree with you on every aspect you wrote about.

So many are thieves with no integrity, honor or morals. My oldest granddaughter (9) and I were having a conversation about honesty. She said, 'what if nobody catches you? Is it still a lie?" I told her that integrity and honor count whether anyone is looking or not. Don't know if she got it.

I know for certain, though, that many people in power don't 'get it' and that sickens and saddens me.

Thanks for a thoughtful K post.

A+
