Shows I Find Appallingly Stupid

The Rogue Speaks:

I used to love Animal Planet!  Remember the meerkats?  How cute were they?  I wanted to set up a Meerkat Manor in my back yard, which is not unlike the Kalamari.  And Chimp Eden?  What a charming and entertaining show that was.  Plus the show where the woman comes into your house and helps you train your dog.  That was a good one, too!  But now those shows are long gone!  Instead, Animal Planet has gone stupid and inane and violent on us.  I cannot imagine sitting down to an evening of Hillbilly Handfishing. or the one about dwarfs who rescue pitbulls, OR three hours of River Monsters.  What are these people thinking?  Talk about the dumbing down of America!!!  If I were the parent of young children, I would definitely lock this station out so they could never see it.  Way too frightening. or blatantly stupid!!

I could very easily turn this into a political rant, because I have my suspicions about the owners of certain t.v. channels.  I think they are trying to distract a certain class of people from learning the truth about a certain political party.  I think they want these people to stare transfixed at the television when shows like 1,000 Ways to Die, or Hoarders, come on ("See, Francine?  Our house ain't nearly as bad as that one!!") and then when it's time to vote, the politicians are going to remind these pathetic folks that they love grits and believe that everyone should have a gun, and lots and lots of uwanted children.

O.k!! O.k!!  I'll stop!!  I have been in pain with my now-diagnosed thoracic outlet syndrome for almost four months now, and when I hurt, I get mean and snarky.  Just ask my former GP who has just been fired for being totally incompetent.

I'm not really crazy about Netflix these days since they got dumped by Sony and Disney, and don't have any of the blockbusters for us to download.  They do, however, have many charming, sweet, and educationally sound films that we can rent.  Plus there are lots of sleepers, ones that never made it into the local theatres, that are deep and thought provoking.  This is not an ad for Netflix, however.  This is merely a rant against t.v. shows that have become so banal, so worthless, so stupid and idiotic that I can hardly stand it!!

This is my offering for Alphabe-Thursday--better late than never!!  Stay true, people!!

Have you been listening in on conversations (rants, more likely) between hubby and me? We are astounded that now with cable we have a zillion and a half channels of terrible stuff - insert whatever smarmy word you'd like to use in there! TV is awful!

Oh my, is there a cure for you???

I like it that you fired your GP. Some of these arrogant doctors forget they work for us or else they can go abroad and work for nothing.

I have been watching very little TV these days. I rarely sit down with hubby and watch tv and when I do within 5 minutes I say "waste of time" a get up and do something else, like laundry.

Speaking if networks.. while surfing I happened upon FOX showing a clip of Obama telling Russian President Dmitry Medvedev "wait-until-after-the-election." His postelection flexibility on missile defense comment has caused an outrage and now he is attacking FOX. Hooray for FOX for showing the clip. I for one am sick and tired of his cover-ups.

Be well my friend!LYMI!~Ames♥

Hey, Judie,

Glad you got a diagnosis. Maybe now you can form a plan of action? I hope so.

As to the vast wasteland that passes forTV these days, I have given up, resorted to watching Season One of NYPD Blue - one episode a day. Damn, that was real TV.

Namaste..........cj

May I suggest a short read?
__The book -Anthem- 'bout a hundred pages long.

A synopsis.
>We are we; I, and single thought, does not exist, the committee(s)
has/have the only knowledge that WE need to conduct our lives. It is against our law to think, emote or dream.<
__We cannot let this happen. _m

Judie, I haven't owned or watched a TV in over 30 years. Doesn't sound like it's gotten any better in all those years. Sorry to hear about your ailment. I hope there's a specialist somewhere that can help you.

This is why I love the PVR - we only watch what we want, when we want. Right now we're hooked on a Danish detective series - no big breasts, false teeth, hair implants or emoting. Just acting. What a concept.

Judie, I am really sorry for your pain. I can't imagine it, because I have a very low pain threshold. I agree about TV, too. What's with all the "Reality" shows?? And there's even NEW ones starting soon. I can't believe there are enough IDIOTS in this country, who actually watch this junk...but it must be so, or "they" wouldn't still be making them...and raking in the dollars, because they don't have to pay any salaries to "actors!" Most of the shows I watch are reruns of shows I liked "back then.!" Feel better really soon!! Hugs to you!

Judie: I do hope you are feeling a little better. Please rant all you want about TV. It is awful! Be well.

Oh Judie. The dumbing down of America continues, doesn't it?

Would that we lived closer. We could have intelligent conversation (?) and giggle instead of TV.

How about if Steve and I head your way in the next few weeks to visit?

I would love that...and I'm getting a bit better and I think I could actually manage it.

It would be easier than you attempting to drive with that back of yours!

Oops.

I forgot to comment on your super link for the letter S.

I agree.

Sadly stupid sells, though.

A+

I happen to totally agree! The same people who consistently lobby to cut education, may be the ones putting this junk on the TV that's definitely dumbing-down America. This way, you have a population which is gullible, complaisant, and willing to follow the ignorant rants and lies being consistently dished out. Sorry, as a science teacher of almost 40 years, this drives me crazy!

In any case, I just wanted to thanks you for enjoying my "Little Girl with Big Hat." Have a great day!

I totally agree Judie ! My Hubs is driving me crazy with 'Pawn Stars' 'The Celebrity Apprentice' and the Barrett something car auctions ( it was on for 6 hours last time ) UGH !!!

I think the worst ones are Toddlers & Tiaras, ( horrid ) the kids dance show with the witchy, mean lady and pushy parents, 19 kids & counting, ( gag fest ) the design show and the high end Manhattan real estate brokers who are absolute reptile guys that are constantly having designer/broker meltdowns, fighting and wimping out !

Thank God all we have to do is block it out or change the channel !!!

I totally agree about the tv shows. What is the point of having National Geographic if it shows "The Biggest Loser" on it? Sci-Fi that showed "Wipe Out". Really? Glad we shut the directv off. We, too, have Netflix but it really isn't used as much as it costs. We keep videos coming but seldom watch movies on the site, sigh.
