Electric Leaves

The Rogue Speaks:

It has been quite a while since I have written any "flash fiction," a short story of 1000 words or less.  I used to write these short fictional stories when Jenny was sponsoring our beloved Saturday Centus. The following is one I wrote one autumn afternoon:

Electric Leaves

The lake is calm now
in the smoky sunlight
of an October afternoon.
Electric leaves on the sourwoods
 glow fiery red above us
with a solar power,
and the faded quilt is
cool now, and damp from
our love-making.

The sourwoods
are the first to turn in autumn,
and you will be the first
to go away, like those electric leaves
that fall and wither
when winter comes;
but the fiery red glow
of that autumn afternoon
will live forever
in my heart.

Now, head on over to Jenny's Warm Heart Wednesday and read more offerings.

I still remember those days and the beautiful fall colors. I also remember the smell of fall. When I was growing up everyone burned the leaves. I don't think that's allowed anymore.

We are just now getting into the reds and yellows. We haven't had a major frost yet here close to the Gulf Coast in Texas.
You bring memories with this one, I wrote a few Flash Fictions for Jenny as well.
Occasionally now I write some with the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads. I think Saturday is Flash writing when the feel like having it. Not there today. http://withrealtoads.blogspot.com/
My "poems" are here (could be other flashes too): http://jimmiehov6.blogspot.com/search/label/Flash%20Writing

I'm glad it'll be a happy memory each autumn for the narrator.

This is lovely. I am still in awe of the autumn colors, and have been for the 20 years of living in the midwest. Thank you for your beautiful words and the very colorful picture!

I have yet to see an American Fall, I hear it's stunning and your words paint an impelling reason to come visit and do some leaf crunching!

Very nice, Judie. I, too, remember those days of Saturday Centus with great fondness. What fun we had!

=)

Oh Judie. This was absolutely poignant and beautiful.

I miss Saturday Centus.

I truly do.

I've been toying with starting it up again to help me write again.

You've made me thoughtful.

And you've warmed my heart!

Thank you!

XOXO
