BUMPTIOUS BUNCOMBES

The Rogue Speaks:

"Donald, don't mention birth certificates again.
  You're embarrassing me."

My B lesson for Jenny's Alphabe-Thursday this week is about BUMPTIOUS BUNCOMBES. The word bumptious means self-centered and buncombe is speech making for the mass media.

Conceited speech making for the mass media is seriously getting to me!! As soon as certain political ads come on, Rod knows to turn the volume down on the TV. It's not just the TV. ads, but the bald-faced lies that are floating around the Internet as well. I am amazed at the stupidity of some of these politicians and their handlers!!! What do they think we are, anyway? We received an email this week from some moron who was trying to convince us that our president has banned Bibles from Walter Reed hospital! Do you believe the chutzpa?????

In 1994, the late Republican, Barry Goldwater said, "Mark my words, if and when these preachers get control of the (Republican) party, and they are trying to do so, It's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me.  But these Christians believe that they are acting in the name of God, so they won't compromise.  I know.  I've tried to deal with them."

The lies that Mitt Romney's handlers have come up with lately make me wonder if any of these people actually know that "thou shalt not bear false witness" is one of the 10 Commandments.  On Romney's campaign website you can see a claim that Obama has accelerated federal spending "at a pace without precedent in recent history."  What a load of crap!  Just last week, Market Watch (Dow Jones website) stated that there had been no huge increase in spending under Obama.  In fact, the yearly increase during Obama's tenure has been only 1.4 percent, compared with 7.3 percent during the first four years of the (George W.)Bush's administration, and a whopping 8.1 percent in Bush's second term.

Why do these people think they can get away with these absurdities?  Because they are thinking that most conservative voters won't go to the trouble of checking their words for accuracy.  And guess what?  They're right!  They are too busy watching the conservative network TV stations' banal programming to be bothered with learning the truth.    By the way, what exactly did happen on last week's episode of "Swamp People?"  I missed that one!!!!

Not everyone cares for my political rants, but I can guarantee that you will like my "C" post  next week, because it is filled with beauty!!  Come back and check it out!!!

The political mess from both sides upsets me. Both sides seem so quick to tell tall stories. Worse, is how easy some people drink up those tales.

As a Christian, it troubles me how politicians are allowed to spout what only seems like hatred blanketed in religion. That is frightening.

I don't know much about American politics, I just know Obama is really popular over here.

I guess because of my age, socio-economic strata and place of residence (Utah), a lot of people assume I am extremely conservative. I get all kinds of kookie emails about Obama being a terrorist, etc. It's absolutely amazing what people believe! Sometimes I'll read an email from someone I know and just sit there looking at the screen for a while, trying to imagine how anyone can believe the crap that I just read...

I used to get those kinds of emails all the time. First, I would send it back with a link to the Snopes post that debunked it. When it happened again, I'd do a "Reply All" with the same thing.

Now, for some reason, I don't get those kinds of emails any more. It's too bad. I'm sure they're still going out, just not to me, which is sad because I enjoyed proving them wrong.

It is really sad when we can trust anyone anymore for all the lies they told.

I had no idea what happened with Swamp People or Rednecks, as I purposely avoid them!

When politicians lie, exaggerate, tell tall tales - whatever people call it - voters become disenchanted with elections and stay home.We had a politician here call disinformation a form of "free speech." WHAT!?

Amen, sister. How people believe the most outrageous bull makes my head hurt. A lot. Thanks for the new vocabulary words :)

Yes, in the case of politicians these adjectives do not abound.
No, what the purpose is not hooded.

If it is any comfort to you, there are many people who, after hearing Donald Trump profess favor for someone, will make it a point to go out and vote for whoever is running against Trump's pick.

Judie, I'm good with your rants, political or non-political. It makes no difference. It's just you being who you are. And I love that about you.

I am sick of the political blahblahblah on both sides. It's really pretty disgusting. Makes me want to live in the mountains away from all of it (Oh, I already do!!) or move to Chile! ;)

Many citizens of the US are quite marvelous people really...except during election year when they break out in stupid.

Cathy said...

Oh yes and I LOVED your rant.

I guess they don't think we will check.

Way to go, Judy! I think that Trump is the last of the birthers. I hope so.

A lot of people are very gullible, people I know. And especially when it comes to malicious political rants.

I just knew that you were going to rant on this ... especially when i saw the romney/trump footage on the news ... wonderful lesson for B ... you didnt dissapoint!!

I could not believe that the state of Arizona recently refused to put Obama's name on the ballot without seeing a copy of his birth certificate... again!! Such arrogance and stupidity. I am not looking forward to the election when all this rancor and lies begin in earnest.

Judie said...

I fact-check BOTH parties' claims!! Some politicians can screw up all by themselves (Bush is a good example!) and don't really need any help from the other side.

Susan Anderson said...

Both parties are guilty of misleading statements.

But the whole birther thing is ridiculous. And so is Trump.

Agree with you Judie that a lot of today's politicians screw up totally without any help from others!

Lovely post - & best wishes to you & little Liz. Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Some things will never change...check out previous political birther hoopla's: Chester A. Arthur (1829–1886), 21st president of the United States, was rumored to have been born in Canada. We just get the doses of news faster♫♪

hmmm...buncombe...My daughter live in Buncombe county (North Carolina).

I am continually amazed (actually not so much anymore) what intelligent people will believe. People send stories by email and do not check the truth first. People will believe almost anything especially if it fits in with what they already believe is true.
Right now this called to mind Stephen Covey's story of a paradigm shift---man on a train watching another man not controlling his noisy kids.

__Judie, from my Independent Voter view-point... I'm still searching for the "Statesmen" that might overcome the "Politicians." (Yeah, I know... in today's world I should refer to "Statespeople.")
__To me... journalism and politics go hand-in-hand; one must explore their context to find any truth. I
think, though, "We the People", are beginning to "shrug" much less. We have more, and show more understanding... than the politicians believe.

I will be glad when the election is over and the rhetoric (and lies) all tone down a bit. The only problem is they'll all be campaigning again before the ink dries on the ballots...and all the lies on both sides will continue.

You know I would vote for you, right?

Judie for President!

She'll get us straightened out.

And I actually mean that Judie.

Your song choice is perfect for this thought provoking link to the letter "B".
