All's Fair in Love and War

The Rogue Speaks:

I have a very busy day today, so I got up extra early to write this Saturday Centus that Jenny has come up with. It's evil, this one, and not at all what I expected, but here it is:

"I never thought this would happen!" Carl thought as he packed the boxes. He looked longingly at the brownstone as he loaded the boxes into the trunk .

It had been ten years since they had moved into their "nest" as she called it. They had been happy! He had a great job, with his best friend of 25 years, Ted. He and Elizabeth were starting a family.

They had been college roommates. They were like brothers. "I'd catch a grenade for ya!" Ted had said. Yeah, sure!

"I'm sorry, Carl," Elizabeth had said. "Ted and I….."

Oh...that is a heartbreak! I have to admit...that I want to have happy endings.

Blessings & Aloha!
Oh! Yes, The Pirate's House is still open...we haven't gone there yet in all the time we have lived here (good intentions), but it will need to be a place to go before we move! Thanks for mentioning it.

oh and have I mentioned this to you before?? if not... I LOVE your photos of your family and friends on your sidebar. (especially with your captions! haha...like "toe collection" and "Emaline contemplating her life as a nun"! too cute!

Judie, wonderful how you pulled this off in so few words. Poignantly got the point across. Looks like Ted may end up catching that grenade yet.

This piece almost snapped my heart in two. The thought of a spouse and a best friend.......well, it's just awful.

Terrible as it may be, this probably happens all too often. Great writing of yours in so few words.

Exellent job with character and story development within a centus, Judie. You're such a talent. Poor guy, though. (Psst, send him over. He might need some comforting.)

Great centus!
Very clever use of the prompt; to use it as part of the background information that creates a sharp contrast to the deception your protagonist is facing in the present. Flawlessly written! You have made an awkward prompt work well!
Thank you for your kind words about my SC-text for this week. I thought this prompte was hard.

Best wishes & hugs,
Anna

Ouch! Poor Carl! Love triangles are nasty, especially if your the one who gets ousted from it :(

Love your take at the prompt! Genius!

Looks like Ted had his eyes on more than a grenade...a little tragic and mean but loved this scene. :)

__In our society, does it not seem... that more oftrn it's the husband who is suspected of being the infidel...?
__In some cultures... there would be a severe -cultural penalty- to be applied in this case, but not in the former. Someone might be lucky here.
