The Rogue's Centus

The Rogue Speaks:

"Oh my God, Richard!!! What on earth possessed you?"

"Well, honey, you told me to get a tree, and start decorating. The tree lots were all closed, and it's freezing in the attic where the ornaments are stored. I thought you'd appreciate my creativity!"

"That food was for the party!!!"

Hmmm--it seems I'm not the only one who's getting a little strange this time of the year! Jenny's Saturday Centus for this week seems a little out of character for the Jenny we know and love. But do we really know her? Maybe not!!

My take on the prompt came directly from the fact that Rod does the tree. I want nothing to do with it. For more years than I care to remember, I had a dream of my little family gathering around the tree with a cup of hot cocoa, listening to Christmas music, and helping me place the ornaments on the tree. NOT! I always ended up doing it myself, then having to undress it by myself in January. So, several years ago I announced that I was through! Whoever wanted the tree up was going to have to do it themselves. Of course, that meant Rod. I am not a Christmas person.

I think Ms. Jenny has gone off the deep end for sure.

I always ended up doing the tree because I was such a perfectionist. The kids have their own tree to decorate as they see fit. This year, they see fit to just leave it as a blank canvas.

Just like a well meaning hubby...just can't get it right no matter how they try!

I would love it if my hubby did the tree. It is NOT my favorite job. Usually the family helps, but honestly, I wish I could just bow out and watch. Eat some popcorn, maybe...?

Great Centus, and not all that far-fetched either, when you really think about it. I could see my sons thinking this was a very amusing way to yank my chain!

I like it, hand me a drink and a napkin and I'm happy! Merry Christmas:@)

The tree-trimming was always a family affair, but when the kids weren't so interested I bought an artificial tree. If I'm to be the one dragging it out in January I was finished sweeping needles from one end of the house to another!

Oh I don't know I can really see Miss Jenny in this prompt, especially after that whole soup tangent she had was it last week? It's probably the cold weather that got to her....not that I really would ever want this meat tree, but I do relish the moment to be a bit less reflective on what's about to happen in just a week from now!!! and just be a bit silly... and so far everyone's posts are just too delicious to miss...so keep on everyone .....we all need some cheer this time of year! Especially if we're about to go out the door, fight some crowds and come back to sneak a bite and wrap....!!

I think the hubby gets points for creativity here....then a stern talking to and directions up to the cold attic to do it properly :)

I do it all too! Maybe I should follow you. Well hubs did put the lights up outside for me. But everything else is always me me me! But then I would want to look at a creation like this one!~Ames

hahahaha. I make my husband do the tree too. Loved you take on the prompt.

My wife won't let me near the tree. I don't know why, but feel free to have Rod give me a call for some hints.

Polly, I used to be that way, too! One year I had doves with velvet ribbon in their beaks sitting on the beams in my extra high ceiling. The ribbons were tied to the top of the tree. I'm lucky I didn't break my neck nailing those birds to the beams!

Rek, thanks for the nice compliment!

Karen, Rod suggested a movie this afternoon. I gave him the wrapping paper and tape, and went to take a nap.

Gems, Rod believes that less is more when he does the tree. It's a little sparse, but at least none of the lights are burned out.

Ames, it's time for someone else to take over that task!!!

Dazee, Rod also has to do all the shopping as well. I have my standards!!!

JJ, Rod has no choice but to decorate the tree, if you get my drift.

Uh oh, poor Richard. At least he was being creative, ha, ha, ha. Good take.

haha...and now you can have the food and the tree, just like that crazy Mrs. Jenny intended!

He just decorated the tree as it was done in the very beginning in the 17th century in Germany, there was only food hanging on the trees, like apples and nuts lol ! That was something special at that time ! Looks also good with party food !
I love decorating, but I don't like Christmas celebrations so much. I think with the years I got an overdose, lol !

Judie, we will get through this. Repeat after me! I loved the creativity of the food tree. Wow, such amazing people. I totally understand you having Rod decorate your tree. I actually do that but Rich does all the rest. It turns out that all the kids will be in at some point during Christmas week, so I am cleaning like crazy. The one thing I refused to do is bake cookies this year. I can buy them for less than it costs me for ingredients, not to mention my labor. This family cannot afford me!

Here's a trick I created for making purchased cookies taste like home-baked. About 30 minutes before folks arrive, turn on your oven, put the store-boughts on a cookie sheet, and let them bake until they are HOT! Your house will smell like you've been baking all day, and the cookies, which are generally a little undercooked anyway, will taste like home-baked!!

Yes, I know I am brilliant!!

Part of me likes the nostalgia of doing the tree every year, but it's such a pain in the ass. Last two years, Pinky put up the (little 3') tree herself. I tend to like it much better once it's already up.

Great centus. But oh my gosh, is that a cocktail wienie tree??

No Tannebaum here, decorated or otherwise. My honey is even less into Christmas than I am. On the early morning of the 24th we fly south to spend a few days at a hotel in Cebu (2nd largest town in the Philippines) before we join some friends at a resort even further south. But do keep smiling and find JOY in these days, like all days, Judie!

A wonderful tree made with food, really original. I played "El Gordo", I had to lose 100 euros. Greetings.

I love that your husband does this Judie!

Mine would say he would, but then not do it!

I think this would be a super cute appetizer tree. Maybe for your next years Bunko party?

Judie said...

Actually, it's not a bad idea! An edible centerpiece!! My God, woman! You are just soooo clever!!
